Water society Strausberg Erkner (WSE) is allowed to buy a piece of land from Landesbetrieb Forst to build a sewage treatment plant for Tesla. The purchase agreement was approved by the budget and finance committee on Friday. Several committee members confirmed this to rbb on Friday.
The property is a piece of forest of approximately ten hectares in the district of Freienbrink (Grünheide). The planned industrial wastewater treatment plant is intended to treat wastewater from Tesla and the nearby Freienbrink freight station and feed into the WSE water cycle.
The purchase agreement between the water association Strausberg Erkner and the state forestry company had already been concluded in May this year, but it still had to be confirmed by the budget committee. The vote in the budget committee of the state assembly was postponed due to many fears.
In particular, environmentalists, the Berliner Wasserbetriebe and water ecologists had expressed fears that the treated wastewater could affect Berlin’s drinking water wells. Because the planned sewage treatment plant has to discharge the treated wastewater into the Müggelspree.
The state legislature does not have to vote again on the purchase agreement. The Ministry of Finance and Environment did not want to comment on Thursday’s vote taken by the Ministry of Budget and Finance at the request of the RBB.
