An electric muscle car arrives: the Dodge Charger Daytona EV

If there is a type of car that is the last to be associated with electric driving, it is the muscle car. They must be mature and have a lot of energy. Now, electric cars can also have a lot of power, which has been proven more than once, but they cannot produce that sound of a muscle car at the same level. But still, when we look at the Dodge Charger Daytona EV, we quickly forget that: a very cool electric muscle car.

Of course there are also pictures of this car in orange, because that’s what most people think of when they see the Charger: General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard. Back then it still had a roaring V8, but that could be done differently, as it turns out.

Dodge Charger Daytona EV

Dodge has launched its first electric muscle car and it didn’t take too long after the concept car that was presented 2 years ago. The new charger comes with a 400 volt system and a 100.5 kilowatt hour battery.

Did you want power? This car comes with 670 horse power and therefore it can show something. The car needs 3.3 seconds to go from 0 to 97 kilometers per hour. Very brute force, but that’s also what Dodge is betting on: range isn’t that important. “This is designed to be the ultimate performance muscle car: until we come up with the Banshee, of course,” says Dodge, who prefers to talk about the eMuscle rather than the EV.

670 horsepower

Now that 670 horsepower is using the Power Shot, because normally the Scrat Pack version of the car is 630 horsepower. You will feel a Power Shot in your range, because the car has a range of more than 400 km. Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 183kW and if you can get a 175kW charger you will be charged from 5 percent to 80 percent in 52 minutes, or in just 32 minutes if you can get a 350kW charger.

There is a four-door sedan variant, but the standard version is a two-door coupe. If you really can’t let go of the idea of an old muscle car, there’s also a fossil fuel variant. It sounds good, but it has little future proof in the context of laws and regulations. And yes, if your car is called a Charger, then it must be an EV, right?
