The Dutch government provides the American Chevrolet camp

Every year the government confiscates cars for many reasons. These are sold by the Ministry of Finance. Although most cars are not worth seeing, sometimes gems appear in the showroom of Domeinen Roerende Zaken.

This time there is a very nice car for sale: Chevrolet Savana. You can bid on the vehicle through the government website. If you make the highest bid, you can take the car. This amount is not what you should pay for your new car. On top of your bid is a ‘buyer’s fee’ of 15 percent.

American camper

Since the outbreak of the corona epidemic, European highways have been full of people camping. Campers are often built on the platform of familiar diesel cars from brands such as Fiat and Volkswagen. Those who want a more unique look can contact the government for the Chevrolet Savana.

The camper does not have the most economical diesel engine possible, but it does have a V8 with a volume of 5.7 liters. The big block engine produced 220 hp from the factory in 1998. The question is how much is left after 24 years, LPG installation and 204,103 miles (about 328,472 km).

Despite the many kilometers, the copy still looks clean at first glance. The seats don’t even look too worn and the exterior doesn’t suggest that the camper is rusty.

Not the height of comfort

Although the Chevrolet Savana is a real camper on paper, you don’t have to expect a lot of luxury. Behind the front seats we find a kitchen unit with a spacious seat and a double bed behind it which is nothing more than a metal frame with a mattress. You don’t need more, right?

Autovisie editor Sjoerd van Bilsen shows you that you can even camp with a rooftop tent on the Little Citizen. The Mini has few advantages over the American camper. Consumption is very low and a car with a roof tent is more convenient in a narrow European city. However, you have to give up something big, the loud V8.

After the Tesla camp, now there is a Cybertruck for water
