China’s Chery wants to conclude a platform partnership agreement with a European luxury car brand

China’s Chery will sign a platform cooperation agreement with the first European brand, Yin Tongyue, chairman of the Wuhu-based carmaker, said on Sunday.

“The first two brands in Europe want to use our platform, and the contract will be signed with one of them, the first brand, during (my trip to Europe from Tuesday),” Yin said during the live-streamed event, where the brand’s new Electric SUV. Exlantix ET from the Exeed brand was presented.

The new model is built on Chery’s advanced E0X electric platform.

In addition to the two brands that Chery is partnering with, Yin said the state-owned company is in discussions with two other brands about possible collaborations.

Chery Auto is about to start producing cars in Spain, its first production site in Europe, the Spanish government and main negotiating partner EV Motors said last week. The talks are aimed at making Chery cars at a factory that Japanese car maker Nissan will close in 2021.
