Sainz master of his own destiny? Doubts of the former Ferrari driver

Carlos Sainz is the highest rated Ferrari driver after the first four rounds of the season. His current position in the championship, four points behind teammate Charles Leclerc, is a simple result of his withdrawal from Saudi Arabia.

“Unfortunately, I don’t know where I’ll be next year”

However, it is the Spaniard who will have to step down at the end of the 2024 financial year, to leave his seat to Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). Bottom line, he could take a different route by joining the star team, but the rumors that were born last week have yet to be followed up.

In April, it was the single announcement of Fernando Alonso’s contract extension with Aston Martin that changed the transfer market. For his part, his young compatriot is associated with several possible routes, but without guarantee that one of them will allow him to continue at the level he is showing now, especially due to the uncertainty of the capabilities of Audi, which will take over Sauber in 2026.

Since then, Carlos Sainz found himself in a confusing situation. Although he could not stand more with Ferrari, winning three podiums in three starts including victory in Australia, the Madrilenian wonders, in an interview with Sky Sports F1, about his ability to control his destiny, within the transfer market that involves half of the board.

“Unfortunately, I don’t know where I’ll be next year. It’s true that we’re talking to many teams. I just need to focus on what I’m doing, prove to everyone that when I’m given a fast car, I maximize what I’m given and I deliver. It was a good start to the season. It’s true that with this car we can shine a little more; and last year’s car I couldn’t shine. This season, it allows you to shine a little more, but I think it depends on other teams, what they choose to do. They know I’m available, so let’s see what happens!”
