Mercedes-Benz is a prestigious brand. The Mercedes-Benz A-class serves as an entry-level car with a price tag of less than 41,000 euros. If you want to show a famous star on your nose for less money, you should look for a used car.
The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-class came to the market in the late 1990s. With a little luck, that model will be erased from your memory, because it certainly wasn’t your mother’s best. From 2012, the brand took a different path with a more stylish, third generation hatchback. This was intended to appeal to a younger group. So it’s the A-class – model number W176 – that we’re considering. This generation combines good looks with a now manageable price tag.
Mercedes-Benz A-class: stylish, but poor
The event has a stylish appearance that can still make a good impression. However, you get a bit of a compromise on ease of use. A compact hatchback is not the most practical used car imaginable.
Due to the shape of the short rear doors, access to the rear seat is very difficult. Something to think about if you regularly have to take your little one in a baby seat. It becomes a real challenge if you also want to take a big buggy with you. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 341 to a maximum of 1,157 liters.
Many features in a used German car
Once you take a seat yourself, you will be sitting very comfortably. The dashboard has circular ventilation grilles and a – now outdated – infotainment screen. “Comfort or sports seats can be electrically adjusted and heated as desired and upholstered in fabric, artificial leather, genuine leather or a combination of leather and Alcantara. Parking assistance, mood lighting and Harman-Kardon audio are also available,” we previously wrote in a comprehensive used car buying guide.
Mercedes EQS Updated: more luxurious than ever with a wider range
“Despite the attractive appearance, the used car’s interior materials are not of the highest quality. Some owners report rattling and popping noises from the dashboard and center console. However, it is (still) a good time to be in a hatchback.”

Mercedes-Benz A-class as a cheap used car
On the Gaspedal.nl sales site, prices start from approximately 9,000 euros. We’re talking about the petrol versions, as you no longer get the impressive diesel.
“With economical but slow entry-level engines, the Mercedes-Benz A-class is more show than go. From the 156 hp variant, performance is well balanced with looks,” we judged earlier in the buying guide. A 200 prices as a used car are just starting 12,000 euros.
