Hyundai Ioniq 6 N as an example: Will the newcomer debut in 2025?

(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – We just tested the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and now the sports department of the Korean brand is working on the N version of the electric car again. Spy photos from Automedia show the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N test car for the first time They were taken near the Hyundai test center at the Nürburgring.

The pictures are meant to show the mule – this is a test car with any (very popular) body. The car pictured is indistinguishable from the regular Ioniq 6. However, the hallmarks of the sports version are the red brake calipers – and rims, which are similar to those of the RN22e study (see below).

We cannot see the large air intakes like on the 5 N. If these exist, they are hidden behind camouflage. Of the three air vents on the front apron, only one is open; The car may not have needed any special cooling air at that time.

At the back there are the same two spoilers as on the regular Ioniq 6, no rear wing as such. The RN22e concept had that in summer 2022 was presented. This car was generally understood as a study of the Ioniq 6 N.

Hyundai had admitted that the body of the RN22e was based on the Ioniq 6, but did not confirm that the car would enter series production as the Ioniq 6 N. The name RN22e refers to the N lab from 2022 with an electric drive. Like the Kia EV6 GT, the study had 430 kW all-wheel drive and a nominal 77 kWh battery.

The study also focused on cooling (identified by a large air intake at the front), on artificial sound and on simulation of conduction. The 5 N also offers these three features. The RN22e also had five-spoke rims that are very similar to those of our Mule.

The Ioniq 6 N has not yet been officially confirmed, but the Australian car magazine Drive claimed in November that the model could enter the market as early as 2025. The colleagues apparently got this from the fact that there were two and a half years between the presentation of the regular Ioniq 5 and the 5 N .

According to the report, the car should be faster than that Ioniq 5 N, which takes 3.4 seconds for a normal run. Performance can also be higher than the 478 kW Ioniq 5 N.

The car will probably have all-wheel drive; The high performance of electric vehicles depends a lot on how long it can be maintained. The Ioniq 5 N of 478 kW is managed in 10 seconds; Without adding it is “only” 448 kW, and the performance of 30 minutes will probably be very low. So looking at the power number doesn’t work very well.

The new 84 kWh battery, which is available in the 5 N and in, will probably be used as energy storage. Facelift of the regular Ioniq 5 is used. All the combustion engine simulation features from the 5 N will probably also be installed, along with sports seats and stronger brakes. The simplified body and lower height of the Ioniq 6 (1.50 meters) compared to the Ioniq 5 as an SUV (1.58 meters) can provide advantages in handling and high speed – the Ioniq 5 N can reach 260 km / h.

The motto of the N division is “Don’t just drive”, which means it’s all about driving for fun. N stands for Hyundai’s development center in Namyang, Korea, but also for the Nürburgring. Cars are tested on a famous race track; In addition, the aforementioned brand development center is nearby.

The sports department has the same function for Hyundai as AMG for Mercedes or M for BMW. But the sub-brand N was introduced only in 2013, The first N car (i30 N) was presented only in 2017. This was followed by the i20 N and the Elantra N. With the Ioniq 5 N, Hyundai presented the first N electric car.

All Things Considered

It seems certain that Hyundai is working on the Ioniq 6 N; The new Erlkönig is proof of this. The fact that the car will be launched in 2025 is little more than a guess. Everything else is still speculation – so is Erlkönigen.
