The Maserati MC20 GT2 race car has been unveiled

The Maserati MC20 GT2 race car has been unveiled. The new car goes back to the club’s heyday with the MC12 GT2.

Maserati launched its MC20 in September 2020 and since then it has been raining special occasions, such as the David Beckham edition, the Red Dot Award and the launch of the MC20 Spyder. Now Maserati has another gift left for us with the MC20 GT2 race car.

With the MC20 racing car, the brand hopes to revive its winning and racing history in the GT2 championship. This on the basis of its formidable machine MC12.

To achieve such success, Maserati’s engineering and design team collaborated with its in-house specialists, Centro Stile Maserati. The new car takes the Nettuno V6 engine from the road car and pushes things along. Although the new power and performance figures have yet to be revealed, it is inevitable that the three-litre turbo engine will meet GT2 racing regulations, ensuring a fair and balanced competition between each car.

However, what Maserati has done to make the MC20 GT2 unique is to create a chassis entirely out of carbon fiber, using this frame to create a superstructure with quick-release panels for efficient parts replacement. In fact, the car has a six-speed gearbox, fully adjustable suspension, 18-inch wheels and Plexiglas windows to reduce weight.

Although the car is clearly based on a street-legal version, a lot of aerodynamic work has gone into ensuring the GT2 sticks to the track, with more power front and rear to keep things straight. Full electric power steering also makes it light and nimble up front, sending power only to the rear wheels.

Maserati test driver Andrea Bertolini said about the Maserati MC20 GT2 project:

“The first few days are very special, especially for me when I was lucky enough to drive Maserati to success in the GT1 World Championship, where I won four titles. Now we are about to get back on track with another good car. We have done a lot of test drives and the initial feedback is positive. It was very exciting to get behind the wheel of the GT again and I could see that everyone involved was very passionate and motivated. We have focused on developing a product that not only stands up to its competitors, but is also the best car for our gentleman drivers in terms of handling, comfort and performance. We want them to experience a unique feeling in this car. With a great team effort, we have worked hard on the simulator in recent months. I would like to thank them, and the most positive thing about following these first few days is that we are all living up to the potential all of us.
