The Mazda CX-80 arrives: first for the Hiroshima flag

Mazda unveils its new flagship, the CX-80: on closer inspection, it’s a long-wheelbase, seven-seat version of the already familiar CX-60, which shares a stylistic and mechanical approach. 5 meters long – or 25 centimeters more than the CX-60 – “eighty” has a modern technical architecture, and “firsts” such as 6-cylinder in-line engines, four-wheel drive and refined suspension. The wheelbase of 3.12 meters ensures a large interior space, as well as the possibility to configure the passenger compartment as you wish, also thanks to the bench of the second row, which slides in length by 12 centimeters. While the capacity of the trunk differs from the minimum 258 to a maximum of 1,971 cubic liters depending on the layout of the passenger compartment.

The finish is finished with a beautiful leather trim and maple wood. The tachometric instrument uses a 12.3-inch display – which can be combined with the head-up display, which shows the main driving information on the front screen – and in the middle of the dashboard there is another 12.3-inch screen which is instead set for infotelematics. As you would expect, it comes complete with the Alexa voice assistant, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Let’s get to the engine: at the front of the hybrid there is a plug-in engine, made up of a four-cylinder petrol engine with a capacity of 2.5 liters, as well as an electric motor powered by a 17.8 kWh battery. The maximum power of this system reaches 327 HP: it proves that the car can travel in 100% electric mode for almost sixty kilometers.

On the turbodiesel front, there is a 6-cylinder 3.3-liter in-line engine with 249 HP of power, and a powerful 48-volt hybrid technology designed to increase its efficiency: the average consumption declared for this engine is only 5.7 liters / 100. e.g. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Prices have not yet been clarified (for now we only know that the hybrid will cost more than 61 thousand euros, while the diesel should have a cheaper list), while the first deliveries are expected in autumn.
