Almost two years have passed since the first announcement of the BMW M3 station wagon at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on August 12, 2020, and BMW M GmbH now officially presents the body of the most refined car series, the M3 Touring.
The first M3 Touring models with the internal model code “G81” will arrive at dealers in December 2022, but customers will be able to order their sports station wagon as early as September. The base price for the only engine option (all-wheel drive M xDrive; 510 hp; eight-speed automatic transmission) on the German market (we are still waiting for Polish prices) is 97,800 euros – 1000 euros more than the M3 sedan with equal power.
BMW M3 Touring – appearance and specifications
Visually, the M3 Safari resembles a sedan up to the B-pillar, which is as expected. Colloquially, this means: large M kidneys, enlarged air intakes, a splitter and flared wheel arches. So far, everything is familiar. Starting from the B pillar, the G81 becomes a station wagon. The roof is black as standard, but can be painted in car color on request (carbon roof is not available, other carbon trim can be ordered instead). The spoiler is always black. Below it is the split tailgate (opening rear window) known from the regular 3 series. The rear wheel arches and the large bumper, along with the four rear tailpipes, create a more attractive look on the new M3 variant.
As usual, the M3 Touring rides on 19″ alloy wheels at the front and 20″ at the rear, which can be fitted with track tires as an option.

BMW M3 Touring – curved display with OS 8 as standard
With a new curved display and two screens (12.3 and 14.9 inches), the more powerful 3 Series station wagon is naturally inspired by the 3 Series facelift that BMW unveiled a few weeks ago. In addition to the new hardware, the software has also been updated – the M3 Touring is equipped with the latest information system BMW Infotainment OS 8.
It also means that in the future the M3 will make more use of touch and voice commands to operate selected on-board systems. In addition, the 3 series sports more will receive new M displays, the color of which (blue and red) refers to the corporate colors of M GmbH. The title display also has new graphics.
For the BMW M3 Touring, electrically adjustable M Sport seats with memory and heating function and upholstery in Merino leather are standard. The list of options includes M Carbon bucket seats, which are designed to provide a perfect feeling for the trajectory, a low seating position and perfect ergonomics. There is also a lot of space for the user, and in a station wagon it is important, especially when it comes to the trunk. With a capacity of 500 to 1,510 liters, the M3 Touring is the same as the 3 Series Touring and can be used thanks to the 40/20/40 folding rear seat.
BMW M3 Touring – Racing only. And good!
The only base version of the M3 Touring is the 510hp Competition variant with the S58 inline biturbo six, available with M xDrive all-wheel drive and the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic, which offers three shifts. program and can be operated with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. Maximum torque is 650 Nm.
The performance is suitable for the M3: From 0 to 100 km / h it accelerates in 3.6 seconds. Sprint from zero to 200 km / h takes 12.9 seconds. The top speed is only electronic up to 250 km / h, but if the optional M Driver package is on board, the electronics only begin to prevent further acceleration at 280 km / h!
In addition to the basic 4WD mode, the driver can select the 4WD sports mode in the settings menu. This is to ensure the most intense experience when using the M xDrive system. Disabling DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) activates 2WD, which is pure rear-wheel drive.

BMW M3 Touring – in our opinion
Technical differences with the standard M3 are small. The M3 Touring is the car with the heart that many M fans have been waiting for for decades. It is good that M GmbH has dared to break its own taboo. Now only the manual gear version is missing.
