The new Toyota Yaris Cross debuts in Indonesia

Toyota has launched a new Toyota Yaris Cross that will go on sale for the first time in Indonesia, and it was initially seen as Iconic Urban Cruiser. Not to be confused with the Yaris Cross SUV sold in Europe and a few other markets, this new car will be sold mainly in the ASEAN regions. The new Toyota Yaris Cross sits on the common DNGA platform (a low-cost derivative of the technology-laden Toyota Tnga architecture) that underpins many cars, SUVs and MPVs in the ASEAN markets. Notable examples that sit on this platform are the Toyota Avanza MPV, the latest generation Yaris sedan (the successor to the Yaris sold in India), and the popular Toyota Raize SUV.

The new Yaris Cross SUV sits above the Toyota Raize and will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta in markets such as Indonesia. The Yaris cross is 4,310mm long, making it slightly longer than the Creta. It has a wheelbase of 2,620mm, which is also 10mm longer than the Creta. The Yaris Cross SUV has a new but familiar look that includes a vertical nose, slightly tilted towards the front, flanked by stylish surround lights that look a bit like the E60 BMW 5 Series. The bumper is long and has a prominent chin that sits below a trapezoidal grille filled with black treatment. There are also vertical fog light houses.

In profile, the styling is very simple with large box wheel arches outlined by contrasting black trim. The front and rear doors look good, and there’s a small quarter mirror in front of the rear door in front of the sliding D-pillar. The roof is completely vertical and slopes slightly back to give that sporty effect.

At the rear, the Yaris Cross has an angular look with a sharp look, horizontal taillights and flat doors. The overall appearance of the Yaris Cross, especially from the rear, is similar to the larger Corolla Cross SUV sold abroad.
