  • The next generation Lexus IS is expected to arrive in 2025.

  • A mechanism with two electric motors may be the only one offered.

  • The wagon may join the sedan for the first time since 2005.

Toyota plans to accelerate its electrification policy in the coming years and one of the first affected models could be the next Lexus IS.

The next iteration of the brand’s smallest sedan is said to be electric when it arrives in 2025.

The automaker has yet to confirm anything, but as the current IS that was launched in 2021 is still based on the generation released in 2013, major changes are expected in the middle of the decade.

Reports from Japan that claim to know about the next IS say it could have two electric motors that would enable it to drive all wheels and around 355 horsepower.

One aspect that confirms these rumors is the Lexus Electrified Sedan concept shown in December 2021, which shows a modern small sedan that could be the next IS.

This idea was one of a large number of concepts that were presented by Toyota and Lexus at the same time and we already know that one of them will be released with only a few changes to the next Toyota Tacoma, which indicates that the design of the IS 2025 can already be decided.

An interesting addition to the lineup is expected to be a sports car that will be the successor to the IS SportCross that was discontinued after the model’s first generation was replaced in 2005.

This more practical variant of the sports sedan, however, may not make it to North America, as this type of model has never been very popular in our market.

Making the next all-electric IS could strengthen Lexus’ position as a leader in Toyota’s electrification efforts, which is the role the brand is expected to play in the strategy outlined by the company’s new CEO.
