The popular Mercedes Benz SL in India which is also called the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ car: In pictures

This phenomenon was more prevalent during the 2000s era. Recently, a few photos of one of the most famous sports cars from one of the most popular movies appeared on the show. If you’re wondering which car we’re talking about, it’s the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 from the movie “Dil Chahta Hai.”

Recently, a few pictures of this famous car from a film starring three big stars from Bollywood were shared on Facebook. Photos of the original Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 have been shared by Car Crazy India. The photos show a Blue Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 in front of a fancy photo booth. The last photo from the post shows this hardtop model convertible in use in the movie.

Dil Chahta Hai

For those who are not old enough, the movie “Dil Chahta Hai” was a huge movie. The film featured Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Khanna. The film was based on the friendship of three college friends who, after college, went their separate ways and then reunited on a road trip. The film represented a generation that was trying to navigate the difficulties of life, relationships, and self-awareness. It was one of the highest rated Indian Bollywood films.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24

Now, about the car itself in the picture, it’s the same car that the three friends were driving in the movie – a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24, to be specific. The 300 SL belongs to the R129 model generation and was one of the most successful models that the German luxury car manufacturer sold.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 used in the film and here in the picture was powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. This tough sports car was able to produce a maximum power of 231 bhp and 272 Nm of torque. It came with a 5-speed manual transmission and featured a rear-wheel drive layout.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR

In other Mercedes 300 SL news, one of the rare iterations of this sports car – the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR – was sold last year for a staggering $143 million. The famous Canadian auction house RM Sotheby’s announced that they have reduced the sale of this car, which became the world’s most expensive car sold at auction. RM Sotheby’s auctioned 300 SLRs for a whopping €135,000,000 or $143 million. The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe was one of only two examples of this car ever built by the Mercedes-Benz racing department.

A private car collector who chose not to be named placed the winning bid at €135 million ($143 million). This Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR broke the previous record for the most expensive car sold at auction, which was held by a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold by RM Sotheby’s in 2018. The Mercedes model racing car broke the existing record for over a million Euros 90. (95 million dollars). The stunning 300 SLR was based on the celebrated and successful W 196 R Grand Prix car, which won two World Championships in the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio.
