The president of Tatarstan accidentally fires a new Moskvich, which will be a cheaper competitor to the Skoda Karoq.

Apparently, the Russians will continue to dip into the pot of their offer, and to the information confirmed so far will be added another one, inadvertently revealed by the President of Tatarstan. It will be a small SUV in the style of the Skoda Karoq.

Tatarstan is one of the republics of the Russian Federation. With an area of 68,000 square kilometers and a small population of 3.7 million people, its importance to Moscow may seem insignificant. But the truth is completely different: Tatarstan is the richest Russian republic of all time. The standard of living there is four times higher than in other countries, thanks to the main industry. These include car manufacturing: Kamaz, for example, has a plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. In Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, civilian planes, bombers and helicopters are produced.

In recent days, a delegation from Tatarstan, led by the President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnichanov, visited China. The latter, although he is 66 years old, is very dedicated to autocross. So he didn’t miss a visit to the JAC Motors testing center. Then he burned news that obviously wouldn’t be released for a while. Especially since the car Minnichanov is talking about is not presented in its best light.

In fact, the message was crash-tested the S3 compact SUV, apparently intended to impress Tatarstan officials. However, when looking at the images from the test station, one cannot help but notice the unusually low speed. Certainly not 50 speeds, where Euro NCAP sends cars into the wall. In this case, it is a total frontal collision, 40% of the front reaches up to 64 km / h.

The same parameters are associated with the Chinese version of the C-NCAP crash test. In these tests, the JAC S3 was expected to receive a five-star rating, so there was no reason why the Chinese automaker should not advance it beyond the President of Tatarstan. However, if you look at the official crash test footage, it’s clear that the dummies hit the steering wheel and dashboard harder than needed, both in the frontal impact and in the reverse impact.

But let’s not think more about what happened, the essence is that Minnichanov noted after the presentation that the S3 is another promising car from the revival of Moskvich. Indeed, along with the petrol SUV based on the JAC S4 and its electric version, the new liftback will arrive in the fall. This is the A5 Plus model with a different logo, for once.

Let’s add that the S3, which is almost the same size as the Skoda Karoq, was originally released in 2013. However, it got its first facelift three summers later, and a major update three years later. Both ends of the car have been repaired, and nothing has been left to chance in the cabin. Under the hood, on the other hand, nothing has changed: the front wheels continue to be driven by 1.5 liters of space developing 109 hp. This configuration, therefore, the Russians will probably find it unchanged.

In this version, JAC S3 has been on the market since 2019, it is also imported into Russia, where it can be purchased from 386,000 crowns. Like the Moskvich, however, it will arrive with a lower price tag. Photo: JAC
