The royal couple cross the Volvo estate in an electric truck

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima got behind the wheel of a truck and a digger on Thursday afternoon. The couple went to visit Volvo Trucks in Gothenburg.

The king and queen both drove around the circuit at high speed in an electric truck, after which they sat in a digger to drive it under the spotlight. The king even ‘rocked’ the miner for a while. Later, the king decided that he found the truck easier to drive than the excavator. Máxima, however, had good digging skills and noted that she can now take care of her own yard. King Carl Gustaf stood behind the wheel of an electric truck for a while.

Volvo Trucks started production in 2019 of two types of electric trucks, intended for urban distribution and waste collection. In September, Volvo announced the start of production of electric trucks suitable for long-distance transport. There are also plans for trucks that run on hydrogen and fuel cells.

The Volvo Trucks tour was the last part of the government visit to Sweden. At the end of the afternoon there will be an interview with journalists, during which the media present can ask their questions. At the beginning of the evening, the royal couple will leave again: King Willem-Alexander to go home, Queen Maxima to Washington for her work at the United Nations.
