What do you think of the GMC Sierra with the 2.7 liter 4 cylinder engine?

Hello,

I’m interested in the GMC Sierra with the 2.7 liter 4 cylinder engine. I only tow a little, a few times a year with only light loads, and it’s mostly a recreational vehicle. In your opinion, does it make or break?

Welcome to Pierre-Luc

So far, the 2.7-liter engine has proven to be very reliable. An important point as GM seems to want to use it more and more. They’re also machines that, despite sounding unusual for a full-size pickup truck, deliver the goods. Torque and power are on par and acceleration is amazing. And since this engine is paired with a well-tuned transmission, we can’t complain too much about its performance. Obviously, you won’t get the flexibility of a V8, but its tuning is generally honest.

This engine is only disappointing because it is just as greedy, if not more so, than other competing V6s. For example, Ford’s 2.7-liter turbo V6 will burn an average of 7 to 8% less fuel, for comparable power. So the 4-cylinder formula is more or less successful from this point of view, since the whole point of a small engine is in low fuel consumption. That said, it’s no gas guzzler either, averaging between 12 and 12.5 L/100 km.

In short, an honest engine, although we prefer Ford’s 2.7-liter V6. By the way, have you also considered the Duramax diesel engine from General Motors? It might suit you better.
