Let’s get to the point. This is the DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 La Premiere. The version name is longer than the model name itself. It’s worth emphasizing that this is a brand new configuration in the release, and it’s limited. In addition, the French style has gained a face. Was it successful? Yes and no.

Let’s start with the benefits. The front has new daytime running lights, which have a very elegant design. At the back, there is an aesthetic belt. New lip textures have been added and the color palette has been updated.

And what is the loss? Designers left on beautiful head lamps with rotating crystals. It was a unique solution at the international level that emphasized the jewelry character of the car. The new ones have the same look, but they don’t have the impressive functionality. Sure it’s cheap, but it’s not very attractive.

Internal affairs

Fans of the “German trio” may doubt whether the new player is the first. They are easy to wipe after entering the cabin. There was really no question of saving here. The materials are of very high quality, as is their level of fit. It is difficult to find an invoice that will be ugly to the touch. And for this they deserve recognition.

The form is also interesting. The cockpit looks avant-garde, but not very modern – at least not by much. In addition, it has its own personal style. Yes, we will find unusual solutions here, but they are ones that you can get used to. An example? The window opening buttons are located in the central tunnel.

That’s right, buttons. In this example, they are small works of art. It is clear that attention to detail was very important to the manufacturer. Everything seems expensive. The icing on the cake is the rotating analog clock that appears when the fire is on.

The most important of these watches are digital, which is of course not surprising. They offer several titles and all are readable enough, but conservatives may complain about the lack of classics. Designing one with two standard dials will be useful – it costs nothing. Importantly, the steering wheel and physical buttons are well in front of the indicators – easy to use.

In turn, the central screen is the real base, which hides a large number of functions. However, you need to get used to being connected to the weather. A free panel will be more convenient for users. The tool itself is good, although it could work a little faster.

Armchairs is a world league. Seriously. There is no question of giving up in any field. They are very comfortable, provide good support, offer various adjustments, and at the same time have a very attractive design. This is how it should be.

The premium compact SUV should also provide good conditions in the second row. And so it is here. The sofa has an electric adjustment of the angle of the backrest, and the seat is long. There is no shortage of space on either side. Competition, you can lead by example – and this is not an exaggeration.

The trunk may not break records, but it is big enough. In addition, it was decently finished (no lack of upholstery on the sides). Its basic capacity is 555 liters, which should be enough for a family of four who do not need to pack a large stroller.

It doesn’t end there. Of course, the backrests can be folded, which will increase the loading capacity to 1,752 liters. It is important to note here that the seat folding system is based on two cables – a simple and easy solution. In addition, there are several functions: mountings, ball on the side of the star, 12V socket, additional rest, solid shelves and two floors.

Technology

It’s time to move on to the important story. Along with the revitalization treatment, an advanced PHEV hybrid system from Stellantis has been added to the lineup. Its base is a 1.6 liter petrol unit. It is powered by two electric motors.

Systematic ability leaves no doubt. This premium compact SUV is very powerful. The driver has a capacity of 360 horsepower and 520 newton meters. These key values ​​go for both axes. An eight-speed automatic helps transfer power to the wheels.

It is worth adding that there is no standard 4×4 with a drive shaft here. One of the electric motors is located on the rear axle and is responsible for driving it. This is an idea that is often implemented in plug-in hybrids from various companies.

Performance? The French model accelerates to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds and can reach a speed of 235 km / h. So it is difficult to have any reservations in this category. What about fuel consumption? It really depends on the driving style and the battery.

The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 14.2 kWh. In practice, this means the possibility of driving in electric mode up to about 50 kilometers. In that case, it is possible to complete the first hundred using about 4.5 liters of gasoline (and all electricity). So it is difficult to talk about the record, but you should consider the group that is waiting under your right foot.

Driving experience

Despite the heavy weight of the tackle, I did not feel any limitations in handling. The car is very compact, brakes efficiently and does not allow the body to overturn. However, the average comfort is amazing. And it’s not like every DS 7 has a problem in this area. Nothing could be further from the truth. The culprits of this situation are 21-inch rims with low tires. The 19-inch ones look almost perfect and are very convenient. This is worth considering when setting up.

The premium character is emphasized by silence. It is very quiet in the cabin and you can talk freely even after exceeding the allowed highway speed in Poland. There was no reason to turn your nose up in this matter. If we talk about the sound, I will say that the sound set gives a good sound, but, for example, the Bowers & Wilkins system installed in the Volvo is “not available”.

Operating system? It’s full of power and you have to admit it. When the battery is charged, you can use it to its full potential all the time. When the energy is exhausted, the responsibility falls on the combustion unit. It is obvious that the battery can be charged when breaking and in special conditions, but it is not very useful. So electric motors are turned on very rarely.

And here I have a little problem. Why use a battery at all and use a lot of power at the same time? After ignition, the supercharged gasoline engine must cope with the additional weight resulting from the use of hybrid technology. Therefore, it is easy to come to the conclusion that it makes sense to buy that version when we drive about 100 kilometers a day and have a place to fill up.

However, it is not always about logic. We buy cars with emotions, and the premium compact SUV is a classic example of this. However, no one will be happy that the fuel tank is only 43 liters. This is definitely not enough for someone who goes on tour even occasionally. After all, he won’t be looking for a charger every few kilometers.

Of course, the DS 7 offers a number of sophisticated support systems. It is impossible to name them all, because most of them are already known. However, it is worth mentioning the night mode. It is something like a night vision device, the image of which is transmitted to the indicators. Sensors detect heat and indicate potential hazards on the road (eg invisible people or animals). A very clever feature.

From an entrepreneur’s point of view

It’s time to check out the deals. Since this is a top shelf, it is difficult to calculate large ads. The basic configuration of this model costs PLN 199,900. This is the price of the version with basic equipment, 130-horsepower diesel and automatic. If the user does not expect good dynamics, this set will meet the expectations. Besides, the DS 7 does not inspire confidence in any way.

If that’s not enough, the customer needs to check out plug-in hybrids. Regular gasoline is no longer available. The 225-horsepower electric variant with front-wheel drive costs PLN 243,000. In turn, the 300 horsepower with 4×4 system costs PLN 263,000 – without additional options, of course.

And we haven’t even gotten to the system delivered with 360 horsepower. Are you sitting? If not, sit down. The tested version, i.e. the limited edition, costs PLN 344,000. That’s a small fortune.

The first compact SUV does not have to be of German origin. The French showed that you can stand out from the crowd and not from the competition. However, the version does not have 180 horse power versions and standard drive systems. They would definitely be best sellers due to their excellent price and adequate performance.
