There Volkswagen Golf no longer the best-selling car in Europe, in 2022 it lost the stick it had held firmly in its hand for fourteen years. The car that beat him is Peugeot 208 and at least it is surprising that in 2007 it was his grandfather who won supremacy on the European market, which is the Peugeot 207. But what was the above change based on? A simple but very real answer can be found by looking at the forum of the best selling cars in Europe. In third place, in fact, the Volkswagen T-Roc beat the Golf by only a few thousand cars and so the two reached 174,663 and 170,689 units respectively. Domestic competition that is certainly not good for a compact from Wolfsburg that is suffering from the impact of its high-wheelbase sister and the inexorable change of European customer taste. Also, the eighth generation of Volkswagen Golf it was certainly not the one that achieved great success in the market, because of the design and some minor flaws, especially in terms of software. Therefore, the Peugeot 208 is the new queen of Europe and in 2022 a good 220,000 units were produced, if we consider the enlarged Europe of 30 countries (EU + EFTA).

The 208 is followed on the podium by the Dacia Sandero and the Volkswagen T-Roc, behind which is the stripped-down Golf. In fifth place we find Yoota Yaris and sixth is Opel Corsa, while seventh is another Volkswagen, this time Tiguan.
