Sales numbers 2024 – Nobody wants these cars

The first quarter of 2024 is over, so it’s time for sales figures. Toyota, Tesla and Volvo all performed well in March, including the Aygo Bovag list it is also full of shop assistants. Nobody wanted these cars.

First the good news. Sales figures increased by almost 20 percent to almost 102,000 new cars in the first quarter of 2024. Things went down well in March, because compared to the same month in 2023, the number of registrations decreased by 0.5 percent.

Car sales Q1 2024

Toyota was the best-selling brand in March (3979 registrations), followed by Tesla (3957), Volvo (3944) and Kia (3006). The model range is as follows: Tesla Model Y (2386), Tesla Model 3 (1510), Toyota Aygo X (1421), Volvo EX30 (1173) and Volvo XC40 (1172).

Third electric

It is interesting to look at the type of fuel, because of all the new cars registered, 41.5 percent were hybrids, 35.2 percent were fully electric and 21.5 percent had a gasoline engine. The fact that diesel has completely disappeared is evident from its market share of only 1.1 percent.

Only 20% private

By the way, there’s a good chance that you, the reader, haven’t bought a brand new car, because only 20 percent of new cars sold are registered in an individual’s name. About 80 percent is run for business purposes.

But then cars that stand out for poor sales performance in the last quarter. No one wanted these models…

Alfa Romeo Giulia / Stelvio

The new Tonale performed worse in the first quarter (68 units) than in the same period last year (106 units).

So the model cannot compensate for the huge sales of Giulia and Stelvio (both single copies in Q1 2024).

Hongqi E-HS9

Every now and then we see the Hongqi E-HS9 driving and we think: ‘Wow, there are people in the Netherlands who have chosen such a Rolls-Royce Cullinan lamp!’

And the Dutch think so too, because the E-HS9 has dropped from 27 units last year to 7 units now.

Lynk & Co 01

Three years ago you paid 500 euros per month for Lynk & Co 01. This is now 650 euros per month and that has a noticeable effect on sales figures (subscription figures, if you like).

01 went from 2896 units in Q1 2023 to 728 in the last three months.
