One of the very first Lamborghini Countach LP500 S, perhaps even the first, is being offered for sale in the United States. Stored for over 20 years, it belonged to musician Carlos Cavazo.

Sold from 1973 to 1990, the Lamborghini Countach was available in many variants. Among these is the LP500 S, launched mid-career with a V12 under its hood whose displacement was increased from 4.0 to 4.8, accompanied by modifications regarding the exterior and interior of the car. After 22 years in pristine condition, one of the 323 Countach LP500 S produced is now being offered for sale. This may be the very first of the seriesshown at the 1982 Geneva Motor Show and photographed for various promotional materials at the time.

Details specific to first copies

According to the company Source Driver in charge of the sale, the manufacturer’s plates and other serial numbers confirm that the car in question is one of the first five Countach LP500 S. Valentino Balboni, who was Lamborghini’s test driver from 1968 to 2008, seen next to this car in the photo of recently, it would be confirmed some special notes for these first examples such as the fender flares taken from the LP400 S, the “5 S” badges on the back or even the body number (72). The coupe comes with its optional original spoiler, which is not installed.

Popular owner

The history of the car has been written since it left the factory. It was bought new in Italy and then imported to Germany by its first owner, who then took it to the United States. In 1985, it was purchased by guitarist Carlos Cavazo, best known for his work in the Californian heavy metal band Quiet Riot. To make it a homolog in California, the musician changed the carburetor and injection system.

Having driven the car regularly for fifteen years, Cavazo handed it over to a specialist garage in 2001, and never touched it again. The owner of the agency died in 2021, and the car is now for sale. He is in Houston, Texas. Although it has collected dust, it appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition and its upholstery has stood the test of time in particular.
