Xiaomi electric car will do better than Tesla and Porsche with this new version

A few months after its unveiling, the new Xiaomi SU7 electric car will soon be available with its excellent V8 engine. The latter can reach 27,200 rpm (a record for an electric car) and was completely developed in-house by the brand. Its top speed? More than 300 km / h.

If you know Xiaomi, it’s probably for its smartphones or electric scooters for a short time. But the Chinese company, based in Beijing, wants to expand its offering and recently launched its first electric car.

High performance engine

This is the new SU7, a high-end electric sedan that was officially launched at the beginning of the year. This newcomer, who is hunting in the countries of Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and BYD Seal, among others, especially surprised us with his technical sheet. We were also able to discover it in real life a few weeks after its official presentation.

At that time, Xiaomi announced that three engines would be available on its new car, with engines named V6, V6 and V8. But make no mistake, this has nothing to do with overpowering fuel blocks, as they are obviously all 100% electric. But at its launch, the sedan will be available only with the first two units, which demand the respective power 299 and 347 horse power, which is already very high. All with a torque of 400 and 500 Nm.

But there is no question for the Chinese manufacturer to stop there. This is how the latter has just confirmed that the range of its new SU7 will be improved soonmore efficient version. And the latter will be possible with the arrival of the famous V8s engine in the list. The news was announced by the brand boss Lei Jun himself during a recent press conference, and presented by the website It’s Home. Enough to make the sedan even more amazing.

Indeed, this high-performance motor motor claims 578 horsepower and a maximum torque of 635 Nm, released immediately as soon as the accelerator pedal is pressed. Unfortunately, the figures for 0 to 100 km/h have not yet been announced for this version, while the Xiaomi SU7 Max can achieve this feat in just 2.78 seconds. This new version should be able to compete a bit with the Tesla Model S Plaid. We know that it will go over 300 kilometers per hour as we saw in the video.

Technology stress

In any case, this new engine is a real gem of technology, which has been the subject ofat least 155 patent applications, of which 60 have already been accepted. Unlike the V6 and V6s, which were developed in collaboration with the Innovation Technology company, the V8s were developed in-house, directly by the Chinese manufacturer’s teams. And the second does not do things by halves, as it presents its new engine record high speed, indicated at 27,200 rpm.

In comparison, the Tesla Model S Plaid is satisfied with “only” 21,000 rpm while the Porsche Taycan Turbo is limited to 16,000 rpm. But that’s not the only thing that makes Xiaomi’s V8 unique. And for good reason, the latter also shows a very high energy density, declared at 10.14 kW / kg. Which then makes it possible to reach an incredible yield of 98.11%, or loss less than 2%. In comparison, the heat engine does not exceed 45% efficiency.

This is because most of the energy used is lost as heat and therefore cannot be recovered. Suffice it to say that Xiaomi has achieved a real tour de force here with this engine, which will be available at the end of the year in an electric sedan. The latter is equipped with an LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate) battery for use architecture CTB (cell-to-body), which means that the cells are connected to the chassis. Which can cause some problems in the event of an accident, as we explained earlier.

Two powers will be produced, which are 73.6 and 101 kWh, for a maximum freedom declared for 800 km based on the Chinese CLTC cycle. Which gives around 690 kilometers in WLTP. However, we still don’t know the price of this variant, with the SU7 starting from 215,900 yuan, or around 27,500 euros according to the current exchange rate.
