Seat’s price list starts at the bottom, with the TSI 1.0 engine, and ends with the 1.5 TSI 150 HP. Cupra starts with 1.5/150 HP, on the way there is an intermediate version 2.0/190 HP, and at the top, where most drivers’ wallets cannot reach, is the Cupra Ateca VZ with a 300 HP engine and all-wheel drive. . I got my hands on the more sensible version of the Ateca Cupra. Can you already guess which one it is?

The same part (quantity) of both price lists (Seat and Cupra) is Ateca 1.5/150 HP. Honestly, given my choice, I would compare the prices of both cars and the financing options – and make my choice based on that; don’t worry about the stamp. It is different when we want something more: the Ateca 2.0 TSI, that is, its presence in the price list, is the biggest advantage of the Cupra over the Seat. This car, especially after the modification, is already very good and (still) perfect for daily driving. The more powerful, 300-horsepower Atekas certainly gets the petrolhead’s blood flowing, but this is a bargain for a small minority of enthusiasts. So: in front of us is the Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI/190 HP 4×4 equipped – like all Ateca Cupras – with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

In the interior of the test car you can feel very comfortable, but I suspect that although the Cupra itself is a “Rich Seat”, in this car everything was added to make it even better – and that’s why it’s so good. And very expensive…

First impression: the black dashboard (and the interior in general) is not “typical black”. It seems that the dark material is pleasantly tinted towards brown – it is a kind of black, not black. It looks very good. The sports seats with integrated headrests are covered with attractively integrated leather, I can see the purity of the metal on the pedals, the equipment seems to be complete in terms of comfort and driver assistance options. As for the seats, first of all, they are designed as sporty rather than sporty, they are just comfortable. Secondly, they are not included in the price at all – i.e. you have bucket seats as usual, but you have to pay about PLN 4.5 thousand extra for leather.

The carpets caught my attention: beautiful and neat. In general, this car has a lot of details in a premium style, the work of the work is very pleasant, so … “golden but ordinary”.

Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI 4×4: 190 HP, but manageable

The Cupra is claimed to be a sports car, the tested version has 190 HP and quite good torque, but CO2 emission levels have taken a toll. This ride is… gentle as a lamb. It accelerates evenly and strongly, but not too much. The car does not make nervous movements because the 4×4 car maintains traction. The interior is relatively quiet when driving hard, and when driving normally – peace and quiet. The DSG is so smooth that unless you’re looking at the rev counter, gear changes seem imperceptible. The transmission ensures (there is that production again …) that when driving fast the engine runs at the lowest speed, which has a surprising effect: on the one hand, the interior is usually calm and peaceful, on the other hand – because. of this, we often run faster than it seems. Ie it may seem that we are going slower than we are. I realized that in this car I have to be very careful not to exceed the speed limit in the city.

Time in some numbers: the top speed of this car is 212 km / h, and accelerating to 100 km / h takes 7.2 seconds. While, thanks to electric and electric drives, the price of power and high speed has dropped. 0 to 100 km/h takes 7 seconds it doesn’t make any impression. But it’s certainly good enough for daily driving, isn’t it?


  • What’s missing here: the feeling that we are driving a sports car (despite the sports seats).

  • What: a sense of unobtrusive comfort, laziness, and good work. And that nothing is missing here.

I don’t know if that’s what the creators of this car had in mind, but that’s what it was. The car is complete, well done, well done, even good for its part.

It is worth noting: Cupra Ateca is praised for the ergonomics of the interior and control, which also has an advantage over similar cars from the top brands of the VW group. Despite the complete equipment, controlling everything is simple and logical. Well… maybe except for the engine start button, which is on the steering wheel and needs some getting used to, which may not be enough for a week.

Some people find the interior of the Cupra boring, but well … it is not yet born to please everyone. When people began to complain a lot about the boring rooms of Volkswagens, engineers from Wolfsburg came up with a solution that now everyone misses that boring and easy …

Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI/190 HP: drives well, but…

The 2-liter petrol engine mated to a DSG gearbox is a specialty of the Volkswagen group. The drive looks completely refined: it starts well, accelerates well, looks natural, has enough performance … This more traditional drive also has its limitations. You might expect that a powerful gasoline engine with an automatic transmission installed in an SUV with a four-wheel drive would not be too economical, but you might be surprised how economical it is: in urban conditions, the consumption is 12 l/100 km. nothing special. On the road it is better: by accelerating, we control the fuel consumption, this car does not have to use more than 10 l/100 km, it can use very little, but in dense urban traffic our influence on fuel consumption is. not great. Cupra burns as much as it needs – up to 200 percent. What a good hybrid needs. Technical data (according to WLTP) show a fuel consumption of 8.0-8.3 l/100 km – which is also a lot.

Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI/190 HP: how much should you pay for this car?

Cupra has a good price list – not too complicated. There are three engines, but one equipment version – only Cupra. According to this price list, a car with a 1.5 TSI/150 HP engine and two-wheel drive costs PLN 164,000. PLN 800. The tested HP 2.0/190 version costs PLN 185,000. PLN 600, and Cupra VZ 2.0/300 HP (however, this is a car with a different character) costs PLN 231,000. PLN 600.

As a tested unit, it has many extras on board – apart from leather, they include: full driving assistance package, optional steering wheel, side bar, power tailgate, good sound system, adaptive suspension – the bill increases to more than PLN 230,000. PLN, and in any case, it is better not to rely on the fact that when ordering Cupra Ateka 2.0 TSI, we will enter within PLN 200,000. zlotys. The car is nice, but very expensive.

In total…

…you buy a car that is not very attractive to the eyes, but up close you see that it is of a high class. Do not look for sports performances, but the comfort that comes from the “lack of limitations” – including performance that is not jaw-dropping, but just right.
