This is what the new hybrid SUV might look like

With a length of 4.5 meters and a new PHEV drive, this model will be the last Cupra with a combustion engine …

From 2024 the Cupra family will have a new member. After Ateca, Leon, Formentor and Born, Terramar awaits us and thus the largest SUV of the Spanish manufacturer, which will be produced at the Audi plant in Gyor in Hungary.

The sports chair brand has already revealed a preview of the shape during other official events, but without going into detail and without presenting all the features. So, starting our presentation, we’ll summarize everything we’ve already learned about Terramar.

Cupra philosophy and hospitality

The renderings give a glimpse of what the new Cupra, which will be built on a new version of the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, will look like. This is the same platform that is used for the new Audi Q3.

Terramar will retain the main style cues of the brand’s models, such as sharp lines, a large “lip” with black elements and a solid design on the sides. According to the first images and renderings, the headlights (probably with LED matrix technology) will be the evolution of the Formentor lighting units, while with the alloy wheels we will continue to find very detailed designs with silver, black and bronze finishes.

As mentioned earlier, this SUV will be the largest in the Cupra range, with a length of 4.5 meters (5 cm more than the Formentor and 12 cm more than the Ateca), meaning more interior space for passengers and cargo.

As for the interior, the Terramar is likely to inherit the sports seats with integrated headrests and many accessories from other models. In that last step, however, there is also a chance that Cupra could choose this SUV to include all-new onboard technology with next-generation infotainment and instrument panels.

Focus on the plugin mix

The Terramar will be the last new Cupra to have an internal combustion engine before moving to pure electric power. There will certainly be hybrid variants of the plug-in. And a new battery that enables an electric range of nearly 100 kilometers.

There should also be no shortage of petrol engines, although the company has not released more information at this time. It is not known if this model will also be available with the 2.0-liter Formentor and Leon engines with 190, 245 or 310 hp, or if the brand will also offer other, more powerful units (or electrified as a hybrid).

Tough months (and years) lie ahead for Cupra. Because together with Terramar, we will soon also introduce the electric Tavascan and Urban Rebel see. And on top of that, we expect the correction of Leon and Formentor.
