This GMC Sierra 3500 Is One Of The Most Amazing Truck Conversions I’ve Ever Seen

The GMC Sierra 3500 is a great truck for big jobs. This model demands respect, because of what’s under the hood and what’s been done on the outside. Let’s dive into the background of this amazing creation. And yes, it’s sold in Florida, but you already knew that.

This 1990 GMC Sierra 3500 is not a stock model by any means. Sold for Cars and Tenders, caught our eye for one main reason—it’s wearing the amazing Tridon STT kit. It’s a definite, angular set from a company known as Knudsen Cars. The company described his work as “Mad Max meets James Bond.” It’s like you took a whole bunch of Ferrari and Lamborghini styling cues from 1987 and slapped them on a truck with a ton of fiberglass and bogies.

If you dig style, the kit is a definite winner. It’s also in good shape with the old fiberglass, with the truck recently refinished in Pearl Black. It would certainly attract a few eyes at your local Cars and Coffee event, to say the least.

The window sticker shows the “Tridon Conversion” kit was $12,820, or more than half the price of the truck itself. With skinning, markings, and everything included, the seller was asking $34,780 in 1990 (about $85k in today’s dollars). Style like this didn’t come cheap.

But back to the truck. It sits with just 61,300 miles on the clock. Under the hood is a 7.4-liter V8, good for 230 horsepower and 385 foot-pounds of torque. Gasser is backed by a three-speed automatic transmission with a row shifter. Happy j0ys!

Interestingly, this truck was for sale a few years ago. Classic Cars sold in 2021, with a California seller asking $19,995. It was in the worst condition, wearing a faded color with brown lines down the sides. It also lacked the hood ornament seen on the current Cars and Tenders list.

How do we know it’s the same truck? The VIN listed on Cars and Bids matches the identification sticker printed on the Classic Cars catalog from 2021. Apparently the truck was sold, and has since been repainted and given a nice new hood to boot.

The truck has gotten a few precious miles over the last few years; it only had 60,010 miles on the odometer in 2021. The current owner says they bought it in May 2022 and added “about 3,000 miles.” That doesn’t add up to the current reading of 61,300 miles, but it’s pretty close. Finally, the condition of the interior indicates the odometer reading is valid.

Today, the truck is sitting at $7,900 with one day left in the auction. That’s a business in comparison, and it seems more interesting than starting. Honestly, it’s hard to think of a more attractive truck for less than $10,000, let alone one that will blow your friends away for nearly half that amount. Of course, that price could still break five figures before the auction closes.
