Timo Glock: What now speaks for Mick Schumacher / Formula 1

Mick Schumacher’s Formula 1 future is uncertain, with only a handful of slots left for the 2023 season. Schumacher could walk away empty-handed. Longtime Grand Prix driver Timo Glock doesn’t think that’s fair.

Sebastian Vettel tried to get young Mick Schumacher interested in Aston Martin team management – to no avail. Superstar Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will drive there in 2023. Esteban Ocon promoted his friend Mick to Alpine, also unsuccessfully. Because Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi wants an experienced man in the second car next to Ocon.

The situation is getting tougher for Mick Schumacher when it comes to continuing his Formula 1 career. Alfa Romeo will retain China’s Guanyu Zhou. Red Bull Sports Advisor Dr. Helmut Marko made it clear that Schumacher is not an AlphaTauri issue. At Williams, Nyck de Vries made his dream debut in Monza – 9th place. Of course, Williams team boss Jost Capito would have to grab it.

Only Haas left. Team manager Günther Steiner is in no rush to offer the 23-year-old Schumacher a new contract. Ferrari seems to have already found Mick’s successor, the statements made by team boss Mattia Binotto about Schumacher are polite and incoherent. On top of that, team owner Gene Haas has indicated that he also prefers someone with experience who can score points on a regular basis. Pilot like Nico Hulkenberg.

Long-time Formula 1 driver, Timo Glock (40), who is today a GP specialist for the German air force, says about Mick Schumcher’s condition in the Formula 1 Beyond the Grid podcast: “What Mick showed in Zandvoort in training , for all the pressure , which he is currently under, I found that interesting (Mick was eighth on the grid, MB). I think: Since he got his first World Cup points in England, he has been producing and showing very good speed .”

The tenth World Championship from 2008 and 2009 (with Toyota) adds: “But above all, progress can be seen, which is very important for a GP driver. He is getting better and better even though this is only his second year in the Formula of 1. I find it interesting how he deals with stress and how he learns.”

“You learn more as a driver when you have a good car and a strong partner. That was not the case in his first year at Haas. If your attraction falls into the second qualifying section, then you are not learning enough. On the other hand, if you’re fighting for points in midfield or getting the opportunity to go wheel-to-wheel against the winners, like England against Max Verstappen, then you learn something.”
