Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup Zandvoort: the full stage of the Oeste Championship in the 2nd race

The top three was definitely not the happiest in the second race of the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup Benelux. First it was Jenson de Leeuw who stood in third place, while shortly after Tomas de Backer had to pit from second place due to a flat tire. To top it all off, the lead Tristan Földesi also had a problem. Because of all this, Calvin de Groot took the win, with Nicolas Bever taking second and Mathias Ronzani third, or Top 3 for United Oeste Racing/Garage Vermeire!

(Press release)

At the start, De Backer gets off to a good start and soon catches up with Földesi, taking the lead a little later. De Groot takes advantage and takes second place from Földesi. A little ahead, De Leeuw passed Stiefelhagen.

In the second pass, Földesi has moved up to second place again and is on top of the leading De Backer, while De Groot has also seen De Leeuw pass. Stiefelhagen has lost another position, this time to Ronzani. Behind them Scarniere, Bever, Wuyts and Gevaert.

In the lead, it is exciting within a second with De Backer, Földesi, De Leeuw and De Groot.

However, then it is De Leeuw who loses speed on the straight and even stops. De Leeuw’s car has stopped in a dangerous place and so it is time for the safety car to enter the road.

The pecking order at the time was Földesi, who apparently passed De Backer before the safety car was deployed, with De Groot, Ronzani, Bever, Scarniere, Stiefelhagen, Wuyts and Gevaert behind him.

Time to start again, there are still 16 minutes. Földesi has an excellent road and immediately has a few meters towards De Backer and De Groot. De Backer goes out and the Belgian soon appears to have a flat tire and thus turns into the pits. This suddenly gives Földesi a lead of almost three seconds over De Groot, with Bever in third place. However, the position in the top three is certainly not the happiest in this race because less than one lap later it is the leading Földesi who stops with a gearbox fault.

This suddenly makes De Groot the leader, with Bever in second and Ronzani in third. Behind them Scarniere, Stiefelhagen, Wuyts, Gevaert and De Backer.

With Bever the winner in the Gold Cup, we still find De Groot in the Junior Top 3, ahead of Ronzani and Scarnière. Garage Vermeire scored a perfect finish in the Ford Dealer Team Cup.

In the championship, De Groot and De Backer are tied with 33 points, thanks to two points for De Backer who played the two fastest laps. The third (or second) is Nicolas Bever with 27 points, ahead of Mathias Ronzani (26). The weekend can’t go wrong for Jo Lambrecht’s men and his Oeste Race!
