Honda Canada begins paying compensation to owners affected by paint problems

Groups of owners of Honda Civic (from 2006 to 2013) andAcura CSX (from 2006 to 2011) have fought in court in recent years. While filing a class action lawsuit against Honda Canada Inc. regarding the serious problem of paint damage, they will finally have won their case in 2022. Now the final stage of the process arrives, with the owners who registered in the collective action starting to receive the promised compensation.

11 million dollars

More than 14,500 Quebec residents will receive a donation from Honda Canada. They are part of a class action filed against Honda a few years ago, regarding the famous paint problem that unfortunately characterized Honda Civics from model years 2006 to 2013 and Acura CSXs from 2006 to 2011.

Homeowners with early paint damage receive between $300 and $2,675. This compensation is immediately connected to the burning varnish and paint of their car which, after only a few years, started to become a very visible problem. This problem is called color delamination. In total, Honda Canada will have to pay $11 million to comply with the class action settlement concluded in 2022 which of course stated that the vehicles were victims of premature damage.

2 years later

Many owners had to be patient, as it took almost two years before the first payment was made. Éric Bertrand, a lawyer at CBL et Associés, the company that led the collective action, confirms that the process is always long.

The patience of the owners who were accepted in the appeal will however be worth it as the first transfer has officially started. It must be added that it is now too late to enter into a process of joint action. In fact, the claim period ran from September 30, 2022 to March 31, 2023.

Honda notes that the amount paid is mostly used to compensate customers for financial losses associated with the sale of the vehicle. So the file is now closed regarding this situation.
