Toprak is not enthusiastic: “But I will do it for BMW” / Superbike World Championship

In the 101st year of the company’s history, Toprak Razgatlioglu gave BMW its first title in the singles motorcycle world championship. What the cycling star still wants to achieve in his career.

BMW is trying to successfully defend its title in the World Superbike Championship in 2025. There is a new matching model, the contract between Toprak Razgatlioglu, who is currently the best driver in this racing series, and the German manufacturer runs until the end of 2025.

On January 15, the ROKiT team will present itself at the BMW factory in Berlin. After the Bonovo team switched to Ducati, we will see only two M1000RRs on the starting grid for the first time since 2020, the two riders still unchanged with Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark.

Toprak dominated the 2024 World Championship, winning by 43 points despite missing six rounds due to injury – 18 wins and 27 podiums in his 30 races speak for themselves.

“Without serious injuries, I still have ten years ahead of me,” says the 28-year-old. “Maybe I can win more titles in my career, hopefully with other brands in the future. Maybe I’ll change brands, maybe I’ll go to MotoGP , I don’t know. Next year I’ll definitely drive with BMW and maybe I’ll stay with them later too.”

“I dedicated my first name to my father, this is mine,” the two-time world champion smiled. “I will dedicate the next one to my brother.”

Razgatlioglu will compete in 2025 with the championship starting number 1, “because BMW deserves it,” as he said. “This is their first title and they have been waiting for it for many years. I used number 1 with Yamaha, why now not with BMW? I don’t particularly like number 1, but I’ll use it for BMW.”

The German manufacturer did everything he could last season to make his head happy. “When we signed him, we knew what development was coming,” explained sporting director Marc Bongers. “We were able to convince Toprak and his manager Kenan Sofuoglu that we would give him a good bike. Our goal was to win. We got our first win in Barcelona, 13 wins in a row, which changed our goals so that we not only wanted to win the race, but also to win the championship. Things went well until Magny-Cours, where Toprak crashed and our lead was reduced to almost zero points. The fact that we were able to win the title in Jerez on Saturday was very emotional for me. The fact that we got our first title in 101 years of BMW Motorrad history is amazing for the brand, the team and myself.
