I’m curious: KTM with Kawasaki rider in pursuit of IDM 300 / Supersport World Cup 300 title

In addition to the Supersport 300 World Cup, Freudenberg KTM also participates in the German championship. Ironically, the Saxon team recruited a Kawasaki rider from the world championship.

It was already clear in December that Phillip Tonn would participate in the IDM Supersport 300 as well as the World Championship. As the calendars of the German series and the Supersport 300 World Championship do not overlap this year, the 18-year-old from Werdau does not miss a race weekend.

What applies to Tonn also applies to Ruben Bijman. The Dutchman was also confirmed by Freudenberg for the 2024 IDM season on Tuesday. The unusual thing is that the 20-year-old competes in the world championship for the Kawasaki Flembbo team. In the season opener in Barcelona, Bijman impressed with second place in Superpole and eighth and eleventh in the race.

“I am very happy that I can compete at Freudenberg! “The team is very professional and has a very strong motorcycle,” said Bijman. “They have repeatedly shown their ability in the IDM and the World Cup in recent years, so our goal one is to fight for the title. It is a great opportunity for me to develop my skills along with the World Cup and I am very grateful to Carsten and the team for this opportunity.”

The Freudenberg team has participated in the German championship for 25 years. «1999 was our first IDM season. Of course we support IDM and we would like to set a positive example for the four drivers in the Supersport 300 class,” said team manager Carsten Freudenberg, referring to the long tradition. “Ruben has the ability to be an important voice in the fight for the championship title. With Phillip and Oliver (Svendsen) we are in a good position for the new IDM season.”

Freudenberg’s fourth driver in the IDM 300 is Swiss Fabio Sarasino.
