David Datzer: “Then I’ll leave it alone” / Tourist Trophies

David Datzer, who now also builds motorcycles for his colleagues, has already left his mark internationally, but there is still a lack of support. This year he would like to try again to impress himself.

Much has changed professionally at David Datzer during the winter months. The 32-year-old Bavarian is no longer employed by his father’s company, he decided to become self-employed: “Apart from racing, it was getting more and more stressful to have a regular job and now we have been getting more and more questions about whether we should do the same “Being able to build racing motorcycles is something that makes me happy.”

“After news spread around the scene that I had modified the machines of other Czech drivers, Patrick Hoff asked me if I could also check his BMW, which he will use in the Touring Cup this year, because I am coming. My missions on the Isle of Man know very well what to expect. Patrick will even race in Superstock at the TT under Datzii’s #55 Road Racing request, that’s an honor for me!”

Meanwhile, Hoff, who finished third in the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) Superbike category last year behind Swiss Lukas Maurer and fellow German Didier Grams, was able to ride his TT bike on the old track. of the Grand Prix. It’s already trying Grobnik/Rijeka a lot. “He assured me that everything worked out to his satisfaction.”

According to Datzer’s original plans, he would have competed in the Northwest 200 in early May. “It was with a heavy heart that I had to cancel. I am in talks with a well-known British team, but nothing real has happened so far I cannot manage this expensive event alone and unfortunately there is no financial support from the organizer.

For the father of two from Vilsbiburg, this cancellation is not a complete injustice because the first two rounds of the IRRC Superbike will take place on the same weekend in Hengelo, Holland. “I’m just preparing my machine. For now, however, things are at a standstill because the key parts are still missing. If nothing happens in the next few days, then I’ll leave it alone.”

This season, Datzer wants to show once again what is possible with his modest resources in the Touring Championship, the Macau Grand Prix and the IRRC Superbike. “If there is no team that I can drive for without bringing money, then I will draw conclusions from that,” says the fastest German in the Touring Trophy, annoyed at the mere restriction.
