Toyota Yaris Cross or Volkswagen T-Roc? Both models are not only among the most popular in their segment, but also in the entire market of new passenger cars in Poland. We compare them by looking at the key features – what engines are available, what their fuel consumption looks like, which model has the smartest equipment offerings and, of course, the price. The latter applies not only to the basic versions, but also to the frequently selected and more expensive ones.
Yaris Cross vs T-Roc. A completely different approach when it comes to engines
Both brands have completely different approaches to engine issues – even people who are not very interested in the automotive industry know this. Although the Yaris Cross version also includes gasoline engines, Toyota is focusing more on hybrids. You won’t find them in the T-Roc, but there’s a good range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from. Yes, there are still two diesel engines left on sale. How it looks comparison of Yaris Cross and T-Roc engines?
The only petrol engine in the Toyota Yaris Cross with a 125 hp aero unit that produces a maximum of 125 hp. Available with a 6-speed manual or Multidrive S automatic transmission. In both cases, the car is mated to a continuously variable e-CVT. The full version of the car systems is as follows.

- 1.5 Power 125 HP Multidrive S;

- 1.5 Power Hybrid AWD-i 116 hp e-CVT.
Yaris Cross or T-Roc. Which engine to choose?
In the T-Roc, there are three petrol and two diesel variants to choose from. If you are interested in a weaker T-Roc, it has a 1-liter TSI engine with 110 hp. Available only with a 6-speed manual. The mid-range 1.5 TSI version with 150 hp is now available to order with a manual and 7-speed DSG automatic. The most powerful T-Roc in the range is a 2-liter unit with 190 hp, which can only be equipped with automatic and all-wheel drive. In this text, we only describe the standard versions of the T-Roc, but it is important to note that there is also a sports version of this model, which is actually a completely different vehicle. The T-Roc R is only available with a 2.0 TSI engine with up to 300 hp, automatic DSG and 4-wheel drive.
There are also two 2-liter diesel engines with a power of 116 hp with manual and 150 hp with automatic. However, they are only available in one trim level – details can be found in our specials. In summary, the version of VW T-Roc engines is as follows.
- 1.0 TSI 110 HP 6MT;
- 1.5 TSI 150 HP 6MT;
- 1.5 TSI 150 HP 7DSG;
- 2.0 TSI 190 HP 4WD 7DSG;
- 2.0 TSI 300 HP 4WD 7DSG (T-Roc R);

While the 0-100 km/h acceleration of the Yaris Cross is always more than 10 seconds (10.9-11.7 seconds for petrol and 11.2-11.8 for hybrids), even the basic 110-horsepower version is faster than their T -Roc (10.8). seconds). In the case of the 150 hp variant, acceleration from 0-100 km / h is 8.3-8.4 s, and 190 hp in 6.8 s. T-Roc R reaches the first hundred in 4.9 seconds.

What does the combustion of both models look like?
Yaris Cross or T-Roc – which is the most economical model? It will not be surprising if we write that Toyota hybrids are more economical than gasoline engines. In fact, however, they have competition in diesel engines from Volkswagen. Of course, it is worth considering that they are more ecological and quiet, but for some Diesel it can still be the most attractive option.
Toyota’s 125-horsepower gasoline engines consume an average of 5.9-6.0 liters per 100 kilometers (WLTP combined cycle). These results are very comparable to all of Volkswagen’s results. The T-Roc with a 110-horsepower engine uses an average of 6 liters, like its more powerful, 150-horsepower version. Here, fuel consumption is 6.0 l / 100 km for the manual and 6.1 l / 100 km for the automatic version. Less economical is, of course, the unit of 190 horses, whose consumption is around 7.4 l / 100 km.
Hybrid engines in Toyota consume between 4.4 and 5.0 l / 100 km in the front-wheel drive version and between 4.7 and 5.1 l / 100 km in the rear-wheel drive version. In this case, however, the WLTP combined cycle data is quite realistic and does not differ significantly from actual use. These figures are very comparable to the diesel T-Roc. In the weaker version of 116 hp, it consumes an average of 4.7 l/100 km, and in the more powerful version of 150 hp – 4.9 l/100 km.
It is also important to note that Volkswagen The T-Roc offers a larger fuel tank capacity. It is 50 liters as standard (55 liters for the 190 PS and 300 PS versions), while the fuel tank of the Yaris Cross is only 36 liters.

Which style offers the most space?
T-Roc or Yaris Cross – which offers more space? Both models belong to the same car segment, but one of them is slightly larger. The Volkswagen T-Roc is 4,251 mm long, while the Yaris Cross is 4,180 mm long. The German proposal is also wider – 1,819 mm compared to 1,765 mm in Toyota. It also has a longer wheelbase – 2,590 mm on the T-Roc to 2,560 mm on the Yaris Cross. However, the Japanese model is longer – it is 1,595 mm high, while the Volkswagen is 1,584 mm.
When it comes to racks, the T-Roc is definitely a great choice. As usual, it delivers 445 litres, while the Yaris Cross has 397 liters in the front-wheel drive version and just 320 liters in the all-wheel drive version. Considering all these values, it can be seen that more cargo space, as well as the interior, can be found in the T-Roc. At the same time, however, the difference is not significant enough to rule out any examples.

Toyota Yaris Cross or VW T-Roc. Price comparison – basic version, reasonable and possibility of restocking
T-Roc or Yaris Cross – which is a cheaper model? Both the brands are very popular also because of the smartly arranged price lists. However, it is worth saying right away that one of them is more expensive. While the Yaris Cross price list starts at PLN 92,900, the T-Roca starts at PLN 117,090. The Yaris crossover is more powerful (125 hp vs 110 hp) but slightly slower, and the cars have a comparable 6-speed manual. The T-Roc in the basic Life version is better equipped than the Active in the Yaris Cross, but there can be no question of any holes. It offers 16-inch aluminum nibs while Toyota still has 16-inch nibs. It has an 8-inch digital instrument cluster (the Yaris Cross’s 4.2-inch display) but only a 6.25-inch infotainment screen, while the Toyota has a 7-inch one with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity.
However, how do the hardware-wise offerings of both models compare? For comparison, we took the first version, which includes automatic climate control, heated seats and aluminum rims. It turned out to be … incomparable. Volkswagen, despite the high price, hides a lot of performance in additional packages. So, heated front seats (with other personal functions) cost PLN 1,540, and a rear camera PLN 1,440. Toyota offers a reversing camera already in the second version of the kit, and automatic climate control in the basic hybrid (from PLN 105,900), and in the third petrol version, which … is not available for ordering. You can buy a petrol engine only in two basic trim levels – Active and Comfort.

T-Roc or Yaris Cross. Which style to choose?
T-Roc in standard equipment version costs PLN 137,690 (1.5 TSI 150 HP manual), and Yaris in rich Adventure version (1.5 Hybrid 116 HP automatic) costs from PLN 132,900. Therefore the difference decreases with successive versions of the devices. In general, however, cars offer a completely different approach than what is known. customer experience, so it’s best to compare both offers and decide which brand suits you best.
Yaris Cross vs T-Roc – which car is better? Toyota is cheaper in basic versions, but in hybrid versions (especially those with better equipment) the difference is significantly reduced.
