According to documents filed Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the federal agency that monitors US road safety, the defect could cause overheating and start a potential fire.

EXAMPLES RECALLED

The defect affects models manufactured from 2019 to 2024. These are: AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63 S, AMG GLS63, GLE350, GLE450, GLE580, GLS450, GLS580 and GLS600. ALL MERCEDE REMEMBERS

This is the fourth recall in recent weeks for Mercedes. The main flow rate was issued for 250 thousand vehicles on February 20, due to a bad fuse. Just a month ago, the Stuttgart-based company recalled more than 105,000 GLE and GLS vehicles due to a faulty transmission, which may not fully engage in certain conditions, causing the engine to stall and increasing the risk of accidents. Another recall, affecting nearly 32,000 vehicles, involved a faulty fuse that could cause a sudden loss of power.

A recall is also underway for Chrysler which will have to inspect 38,100 vehicles in the US due to the driver’s side airbag that may not work properly, and the risk of not being activated. “The control column module may not be welded properly, which could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying in a crash,” increasing the risk of injury, Auburn Hills, Mich., company Stellantis Group.

MODELS RECALLED BY CHRYSLER

The recall affects certain 2023 through 2024 models, including Ram, Jeep and Chrysler, Jeep Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Ram 3500 and 2500. Owners will receive a letter starting May 3, and qualified dealers will inspect and replace parts as needed.

Another 1,831 right-hand drive 2016 Jeep Wrangler vehicles are being recalled due to parts that could fail and prevent the air bags from deploying. Owners will be notified on May 3 and will be able to exchange the affected parts free of charge at a qualified dealer.

As with Mercedes, this is not the only problem for Chrysler which had to issue a recall notice for 36,093 2023 to 2024 model year Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale due to non-compliant tire labeling.
