Tyre gamble pays off for Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes as they sear into West Cork Rally lead

Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes’ gamble has been exorbitantly rewarded as they soar into the top spot at the West Cork Rally. Their audacious decision to switch to a harder tyre paid off handsomely, as they earned a minute and a half lead over their competitors.

The duo, both from Monaghan, had no hesitation in choosing the more challenging tyre for the weekend’s proceedings. Despite their intrepid selection, the couple were still able to make an indelible impression on their rivals, with Moffett remarking: “We weren’t sure what to expect as we’d never used this tyre on a rally before. We knew it was going to be hard and it was, but it was the right call.”

Hayes echoed his teammate’s sentiments, saying, “The surface was very abrasive, and it was definitely a gamble to go with this tyre. We had to drive accordingly and it paid off”.

Their risk-taking strategy was rewarded with a staggering 1 minute and 30 second lead over their nearest opponents. However, their journey is far from over, as they will now have to negotiate the second half of the rally, which is notoriously difficult.

Moffett and Hayes will be hoping their decision to take a chance will result in a successful outcome, and with their current standing they are in prime position to make a statement at the West Cork Rally.
