USS Montana submarine crew visits Treasure State – NBC Montana

The crew of the USS Montana, the U.S. Navy’s newest Virginia-class attack submarine, recently paid a visit to the Treasure State.

The crew of the nuclear-powered submarine arrived in Montana for a port visit, during which they paid homage to the state’s namesake vessel, the USS Montana. The submarine was commissioned in June of this year and is the sixteenth Virginia-class attack submarine to join the fleet.

The crew of the USS Montana took part in a variety of activities during their visit to the Treasure State, including a tour of the state capitol building in Helena, a visit to the USS Montana Memorial in Whitefish, and a tour of the USS Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.

The crew also had the opportunity to meet with local veterans, including those who served on the original USS Montana. During their visit, the crewmembers took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula, honoring those who have served in the U.S. military.

“It was an honor to be able to meet and thank the veterans who served on the original USS Montana,” said Cmdr. Andrew W. Warren, commanding officer of the USS Montana. “We were inspired by the stories of courage and sacrifice that these veterans shared with us, and we are humbled to be able to pay tribute to them in this way.”

The USS Montana’s port visit to the Treasure State provided a unique opportunity for the crew to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the state’s history and its people.

“The crew of the USS Montana was honored to visit the Treasure State and experience its culture and history firsthand,” said Cmdr. Warren. “We are grateful for the warm welcome and hospitality that we received, and we look forward to the future opportunities to serve the citizens of Montana and the United States.”

The USS Montana is the latest of the Virginia-class attack submarines to join the U.S. Navy, and is equipped with a variety of advanced technologies designed to increase its lethality and survivability. The submarine is capable of conducting a variety of missions, including intelligence gathering, search and rescue operations, and anti-submarine warfare.
