Valtteri Bottas has implored Alfa Romeo to up their game in order to aid his pursuit of points and success in Formula One. The Mercedes driver is currently languishing in fifth place in the Driver’s Championship, and feels that the Swiss-based Alfa Romeo squad must take a ‘step’ in order to propel him up the standings.
Bottas, who is yet to win a race this season, highlighted the importance of Alfa Romeo’s performance in aiding his efforts to close the gap to Championship leader Lewis Hamilton. The Finn commented: “Alfa Romeo need to take a step if I am to get back into the points. We need to find a way to work together and make sure we are both going in the same direction.”
The 30-year-old also suggested that his team have been left frustrated by the lack of progress from Alfa Romeo, who currently sit sixth in the Constructor’s Championship. He went on to point out that, although they are yet to win a race, they possess the necessary tools to achieve their goals.
“It’s been difficult to get them to move forward,” Bottas said. “We have the tools and the resources to do that, but they need to take a step if they want to get into the points and make a difference. We need to find a way to make sure we are both heading in the same direction, and then we can make progress.”
The Mercedes driver is hoping that Alfa Romeo can turn their fortunes around in the coming races, as he looks to fight for the title. He concluded: “We need to get them to move forward, to make sure we are going in the same direction, and then we can make the necessary steps to get some points. We need to make sure we are both pushing in the same direction and then we can start to get some points and make a difference.”
