Vermont vs. UConn – Women’s College Basketball Game Recap – March 18, 2023

On March 18, 2023, the University of Connecticut Huskies and the University of Vermont Catamounts faced off in a women’s college basketball game that was an intense battle from start to finish. The Huskies were able to come away with the narrow victory, 81-77.

The Catamounts came out with a strong start, taking a 7-point lead in the first quarter. UConn was able to cut the lead to 3 points at the end of the quarter and eventually took the lead in the second quarter. By the end of the first half, the Huskies had a 4-point advantage, 39-35.

The third quarter saw the Catamounts fight back and take the lead again. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the game, with Vermont eventually taking a 3-point lead with just over a minute remaining. The Huskies then proceeded to go on a 7-0 run in the final minute of the game to secure the win.

UConn was led by junior guard Samantha Smith, who had a career-high of 35 points. Smith was able to get to the free throw line often and knocked down 8 of 10 free throws. She was also able to hit some big shots late in the game to help secure the win for the Huskies.

The Catamounts were led by senior forward Emily Jones, who had a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Jones was able to get to the free throw line 11 times and knocked down all 11 shots. She also had 3 steals and 2 blocks in the game.

This was a hard-fought game between two evenly matched teams and it came down to the wire. The Huskies were able to make the plays down the stretch and come away with the victory. The Catamounts will look to rebound and get back in the win column in their next game.
