Vettel’s successor? Aston Martin takes care of it immediately

Following the announcement of Sebastian Vettel’s resignation, the Aston Martin Formula 1 team is yet to deal with a specific successor, but will have the matter on the list early next week.

“This weekend we have to keep our focus on Sebastian and not speculate or put other names forward,” team boss Mike Krack said on Saturday in Budapest. The racing team “will work on it from Monday. If we have someone, we will announce it,” said the 50-year-old from Luxembourg ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.

Who knows what the future will bring? I never say never, but my focus right now is Budapest and Haas.

Vettel announced his retirement at the end of the season on Thursday. Its cockpit will be independent from 2023, although the team would like to continue working with Heppenheimer. Mick Schumacher’s name has already been mentioned as a possible successor, but the 23-year-old is currently not considering a change. “I think there’s still a lot to do here, this is my goal at the moment,” said Schumacher about his status at the Haas American racing team. Although he does not yet have a new contract until 2023, negotiations with his current employer would be a priority. However, Schumacher also said: “Who knows what the future will bring? I never say never, but my focus at the moment is Budapest and Haas.”

Alonso tends to decline

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has also been marketed as a possible successor to four-time champion Vettel. However, the 41-year-old Spaniard is not entirely interested in the cockpit. He would rather try to get a boost from Renault’s successor team, Alpine, he said at the doctor.
