Lamborghini is bringing a plug-in hybrid to the Urus series for the first time. The Urus SE comes to customers with a new design, improved aerodynamics, a revised interior and an 800 hp hybrid drive. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) version of the SUV is meant to impress, performance, efficiency, emissions and driving pleasure.

“Thanks to its two hearts, fuel and electricity, the Urus SE achieves high torque and performance. “The Urus SE occupies a unique position in its segment and at the same time reduces emissions by up to 80 percent,” says the manufacturer. “We are advancing the electrification of product range and therefore a decarbonisation path, which began with the introduction of the Revuelto super sports car in March 2023,” CEO Stephan Winkelmann says.

“Our development brief for the UrusSE was clear: to create the most sophisticated technology and the most performance together with the uncompromising character that is typical of Lamborghini’s DNA,” says head of technology Rouven Mohr. “When it comes to driving pleasure and driving dynamics, the Urus SE is now the undisputed leader in its segment. It is an excellent SUV that perfectly combines various features, providing absolute comfort and at the same time performance and driving pleasure. This guarantees an experience like no other.”

A revised four-liter V8 with biturbo charging works in conjunction with an electric drive. It develops an output of 620 hp (456 kW) and a motor torque of 800 Newton meters and is combined with an electric train with 192 hp (141 kW) and 483 Newton meters. This system develops a total output of 800 hp (588 kW) and, according to Lamborghini, ensures optimal performance in every driving situation and on every surface.

The 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery is located under the load floor and above the electronically controlled rear axle differential. It can be charged at a maximum of 7.2 kW. A permanent magnet electric motor, which is housed in an eight-speed automatic transmission, supports the V8 but also acts as a drag component. “This makes the Urus SE an all-wheel drive electric vehicle that can travel over 60 kilometers in EV mode,” it says.

The Urus SE has a new mid-range electric torque transmission using an electronic multi-plate clutch. This distributes the drive torque differentially and continuously between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in collaboration with a new electronic slip differential on the rear axle, which controls the distribution of torque during braking and allows the Urus SE to steer if needed – “like a super sports car,” declares the Italian brand.

And more: “Both systems have been designed and calibrated to be perfectly suited to every type of road grip and every driving style and provide excellent traction and agility – no matter whether on the race track, over the desert dunes, on ice or off-road the Urus SE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h. These values make the SE the most powerful Urus all time and, according to the manufacturer, the fastest production car in its class.

With the Urus SE, Lamborghini is redefining the stylistic expression of the series. The lines have reportedly been updated with the aim of further improving efficiency and aerodynamic performance. “The design update emphasizes the dynamics of the silhouette, harmoniously integrated with the aim of placing the basic body strongly and evenly on the new 23-inch wheels,” says the company.

Lamborghini is also redesigning the interior of the Urus SE. It says: “The focus is on an overall light feeling, achieved by reducing the height and lines, as well as focusing on the ergonomics of driving. The dashboard is narrow, the air vents follow Lamborghini’s characteristic hexagon shapes. It features an increase in visual value, the number of the center console and screen access The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen display are now pilot-friendly.

With the Urus SE, Lamborghini is removing two petrol-only variants the S and Performante from the range. “The plug-in hybrid is not an additional offer, but our only offering in the future,” said chief technology officer Mohr at the Edison portal. In Europe, the base price will be over 260,000 euros, which could be roughly the price of the current Performante.
