The Nissan has begun construction work on its first trial production line for solid-state batteries, inside a factory in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Unlike the lithium-ion batteries used today, solid-state ones have twice the energy density, which means being able to store the same kWh in half the space, or twice the kWh in the same size. These are batteries that are less expensive to manufacture, capable of charging more quickly, and which for this reason should provide “a boost to the spread of electric mobility”.

When they will arrive. The production of solid state batteries is part of the industrial plan Nissan Ambition 2030, which predicts a mix of power distribution in sales equal to 55% and the first version of 27 electric models (including those with the e-Power system). The first models with solid-state batteries will arrive by fiscal year 2028. Nissan aims to use them on a range of products, including models.
