Sainz wants to make life difficult for Red Bull by improving Ferrari’s plans

According to Carlos Sainz, it is very important that the improvements, which Ferrari will introduce to the SF-24 during the Grand Prix weekend in Imola, are bullish. The 29-year-old Spaniard, who took the third Grand Prix victory of his F1 career in Australia a few weeks ago, is predicting as many victories for Red Bull Racing again if not more.

After five races, Red Bull already has four victories. Max Verstappen was responsible for all four and it could have been five if the reigning world champion had not left Australia. Ferrari seems to be able to put pressure on the championship build-up, especially Sergio PĂ©rez, every time, but that was not the case in China. The Italian team had to endure not only Red Bull, but also McLaren at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Ferrari has a number of improvements planned for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to close the gap on Verstappen’s team. According to Sainz, it is important that the improvement also has the desired effect. “That’s the plan, I hope they work,” the Spaniard replies Motorsport.com. ‘Let’s wait and see if the package works. I hope we can make life more difficult for Red Bull. If not, they will leave with many victories again this season,” Sainz puts his hopes on the improvements announced by Ferrari.

He feels better about Miami

The SF-24 did not perform well at the Shanghai International Circuit, but Sainz had already expected that. “We need some improvement if we want to be more competitive in these long-distance categories,” said the 29-year-old, who says Ferrari still needs to improve, especially on certain circuits. “We are in a good position at circuits like Australia, but there will be circuits where Red Bull will have a clear lead and where McLaren will be stronger. Then there will be circuits like Australia where we can be there. So it really depends on the circuit. But obviously that if we want to be as strong on the track as China, we need a better platform.”

In a week and a half, the F1 circus will travel to Miami, where the sixth Grand Prix of the season will be held. Sainz expects the south Florida circuit to better suit the SF-24’s characteristics. ‘I think so. I mean, I have a better feeling about that than I do here. It won’t be like Australia, but I think Miami should suit us better,” Sainz concludes.
