Disappeared from Opel’s lineup for years: the Frontera is back

Originally a pure 4×4 off-roader, the Opel Frontera returns in the form of a two-wheel city SUV.

Opel is writing the beginning of a new chapter in its long and successful history. The Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer today revealed the first images of the New Opel Frontera. If the name “Frontera” speaks to you, it certainly evokes this true all-terrain vehicle sold by the German manufacturer between 1991 and 2004 (less than two model generations).

The third generation that Opel has just revealed is completely unrelated to the old model that was the restyled Isuzu Rodeo. The new fun and spacious Blitz SUV will be available from its launch in a 100% battery electric version, then in versions with 48-volt hybrid technology.

Part change

The new Frontera impresses at first glance with its strong interpretation of Opel’s clean and strong design philosophy. The silhouette and proportions of the new Frontera combine a functional and spacious living space with a very bold, powerful, but also very modern look. The new Opel logo “Blitz” is presented for the first time on a production model and sits proudly in the center of the brand’s front emblem: the Opel Vizor. The black “Vizor” gives the front of the Frontera a unique identity by seamlessly integrating the Eco LED headlights and automatic high beam with the central Opel logo. “Vizor” is characterized by a trapezoidal opening intended for cooling, enhancing the feeling of strength and durability of the car.

Opel’s “signature wings” shine through its modern interpretation with its three light units separated by body-colored inserts. The side view shows the marked C-pillar. Pronounced wheel arches and fenders anchor the car firmly on the road while giving the new model a strong, modern and inspiring look. Smart phone center, Intelli-Seat: intelligent solutions for connectivity and comfort, the modern feel continues in the cabin where design intelligence meets functionality. Large horizontal inserts on the dashboard and doors seem to expand the interior.

Technology

In addition, the Pure Digital Panel cockpit, typical of Opel, with its two 10-inch screens and multimedia information system, attracts attention like the new steering wheel. Opel systematically follows the philosophy of maximum comfort with minimum disruption, and a clean and “detox” user experience to avoid any form of digital stress. The new design is also aimed at those who prefer to use their mobile phones, by offering an innovative smartphone dock as an option. After connecting to the station via a special app, the user’s smartphone becomes the vehicle’s infotainment control center, also interacting with the steering wheel controls.

Furthermore, Opel is re-innovating in the front seats with the patented Intelli-Seat feature – a position that reduces pressure on the tail for exceptional comfort, even during long road trips. In addition, the seats are not only richly made and carved, but also attract attention with their different stitching. The seat fabrics are made from completely sustainable recycled material. The sporty spirit of the new Frontera is further enhanced by a series of intelligent complementary solutions.

For example, it is easier than ever to charge mobile devices with a cooled wireless charger and four USB ports (two in the front and two more in the back. Larger devices that would not normally find their place in the cabinet, such as laptops, can be stored safely in the center of the console thanks to the flexible strap that puts them in the position to save space in the cabin can carry everyday items, thanks to the rubber coating that prevents them from sliding the column can benefit from the small pockets for smartphones located in the front and back seats .

Ergonomics

Spacious, beautiful and smart: the perfect partner for a busy and sustainable life. In addition, the new Frontera impresses with its loading capacity. With the rear seats, it already offers more than 460 liters of luggage space in the trunk. The value increases to 1,600 liters with the rear seats folded. A 60/40 split rear bench seat offers more flexibility, while a two-level load floor is offered as standard. In addition, customers who need to carry more cargo and want to take full advantage of the roof’s load capacity (over 200 kg) can choose the optional work bars.

Like all new Opel models, the new Frontera impresses not only with its bold and clean design, but also with its responsible performance. Customers will be able to choose between a battery-electric variant and highly efficient engines with 48-volt hybrid technology. Regardless of the powertrain chosen, driving pleasure reaches a very high level thanks to special chassis settings.

Rüsselsheim engineers took great care to improve body control and provide typical Opel handling characteristics even at high speeds on the German autobahn.
With its new expressive appearance, smart and fun solutions and a range of 100% electric or hybrid engines, the new Opel Frontera shows once again that the German brand continues its commitment to electrification, while meeting customer expectations many.
