Kia offers a futuristic range of fully electric and conventional commercial vehicles

KIA calls them PBVs (Purpose Built Vehicles) a new type of model. The company announced several years ago that it was working on this development, but yesterday it showed in detail what it thinks for the first time at CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.

A normal car

In the middle of development is PV5. This model is a type of future car intended for the business market. The PV5 has a modular design, which means that the vehicle can be easily adapted for different purposes. At CES, KIA presented the PV5 in four different options.

Taxi truck

The base is a small car. For entrepreneurs who want more space, there is a PV5 version with a high roof. In the third version, most of the rear part of the roof is removed, creating a model that resembles a pickup truck. The fourth version of the PV5 is designed in such a way that the PV5 becomes a taxi bus, so that it can transport several people. With this version, KIA hinted at the future possibilities of autonomous driving. It is working with the technology company Motional on the PV5-R, where the R stands for robotaxi.

The interior of the PV5 is also designed with regular use in mind. The system of floor boards and rails on the roof makes it possible to add various things like seats and storage rooms as you want.

The video below shows how the PV5 module parts are connected together.
