The head of the Pininfarina design studio has died

The head of the design firm Pininfarina, Paolo Pininfarina, has died at the age of 65. The company created original designs for some of the most sought-after brands in the automotive world.

Paolo Pininfarina, head of the Pininfarina company named after his grandfather, has died at the age of 65. The company announced this in a statement.

Since 2008, Pininfarina has been at the helm of the famous design company that his grandfather Battista “Pinin” Farina founded in 1930. Previously, he had headed the non-automotive design department since 1987. The company’s legacy includes designing famous automotive organizations for brands such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, Volvo and Ford also designed high-speed trains and buildings.

Paolo Pininfarina was born on August 28, 1958 in Turin. After studying mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin, he gained experience abroad at Cadillac, Honda and General Motors. He began his career at Pininfarina in 1982. After various management positions, he took over as president in 2008 following the death of his brother Andrea.

Under his leadership, the Sergio concept car and the Battista electric hypercar were created, among other things. It is not yet clear who will succeed Paolo Pininfarina.
