The former champion was left behind by two competitors. The newspaper “Automobilwoche” reports that the VW Golf has to give up its traditional position as the most popular car in Europe and has dropped to third place. A total of 19,047 VW Golf models were purchased in February.

According to “Automobilwoche”, the second place on the popularity podium is now occupied by the Tesla Model Y. With 19,795 sales, the Model Y has proven itself to be a strong rival, relegating the Golf to third place.

But that’s not the end of the surprise! At number one in the current position dominating European roads is the affordable Dacia Sandero. With an impressive 20,372 sales in February, this underdog surprised and can now call itself the continent’s best-selling car – and it doesn’t cost 12,000 euros. Is it a sign that customers are unwilling or unable to dig deep into their pockets? VW probably has to ask itself this question too. Because even the E models cannot match the Dacia Sandero in terms of price.
