Director Eleanor Coppola, wife of Francis Ford Coppola for 61 years, has died


To the general public, her name was mainly associated with that of her husband, Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the organization. Godfatherof the powerful Apocalypse Now, and other masterpieces of the seventh art. But Eleanor Coppola also stood out as a filmmaker, nominated eight times for the Oscar Awards and awarded in 1991 for her documentary on the making of Apocalyse Now: Hearts of Darkness: The Director’s Apocalypse.

The director died at his home on Friday, April 12, in Rutherford in the Napa Valley of California, at the age of 87, his family announced to the Associated Press, specifically Different. She was married to Francis Ford Coppola for 61 years, whom she met on the set of the first film of the last. Mental disorder 13, she was the mother of his three children : actress and filmmaker Sofia Coppola, producer Roman Coppola and actor and co-producer Gian-Carlo Coppola, their eldest son.

Her husband’s artistic partner, Eleanor Coppola had signed several films for the latter, but also for her childrenincluding his daughter, Sofia, and the production of Marie Antoinette. Recently, the director distinguished himself with two fictional films, Hello Anne (Paris Can Wait), in 2016, and Love storiesA joint drama about love released in 2020.

Very sad news that comes shortly after the selection of Francis Ford Coppola’s latest film for the 2024 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Being the matriarch of one of the biggest film families, Eleanor Coppola was also a writer, screenwriter and photographer.
