Volkswagen and XPeng develop an electric platform 40% cheaper than the ID.3 MEB

XPeng, a Chinese automaker specializing in electric vehicles, and the Volkswagen Group have announced a partnership to develop an affordable electric platform for electric vehicles for the Chinese market. The initiative aims to make electric vehicles more accessible to Chinese consumers while encouraging the adoption of electric mobility in the world’s most populous country.

XPeng & Volkswagen: a partnership of great importance

Collaboration between XPeng and Volkswagen aims to develop an electric platform that would be approx 40% cheaper that the MEB (Modular Electric Drive) platform currently used by Volkswagen for its electric vehicles, such as VW ID.3. This new platform will allow reduce the production costs of electric vehicles, which can lead to more competitive sales prices in the Chinese market. The purpose of this partnership is to stimulate the adoption of electric mobility in China, but not only that, as you can imagine. The main goal of the German group is of course to wage war against Chinese manufacturers… on equal terms.. Volkswagen sells some of its electric cars in China, but they have not been very successful due to their poor prices. By offering affordable electric cars through its China XPeng, Volkswagen hopes to convince more Chinese consumers to choose its models over others. Nothing has been won yet, but Volkswagen is working towards this goal.
