The world premiere of the future Volkswagen

Volkswagen is showing the ID.Code concept car at Auto China 2024 in Beijing, which gives the first glimpse of a new generation of SUVs, a new design language for China and a new generation of technology. The concept car was developed specifically for Volkswagen customers in China. VW wants to usher in a “new era of mobility in China”.

VW ID can do that

  • Design and technology:
The car has open surfaces that are more reminiscent of Gran Turismo than a typical SUV. The exterior serves as a projection point for next-generation AI-supported lighting and display systems that enable intelligent human-machine communication Doors open electrically.

  • Smart Windows:
The side window features new “Smart Windows” devices that integrate partially transparent displays. As the driver approaches, an AI-powered avatar appears on the display, providing useful information. This avatar also supports the driver in the interior as a passenger and is available to all passengers with information.

  • Ways to drive:
The electric concept car can be driven normally and autonomously up to level 4. During level 4 autonomous driving, the steering wheel retracts to create space and rotate the front seats 180 degrees so that passengers can sit facing each other. The seats can also be moved to the sleeping position.

  • Internal hoses:
The center console is attached to the rail and can be moved. There is a refrigerator inside. The cup holder of the center console has two functions: in the lower position it serves as a classic cup holder, in the upper position it becomes a light.

By 2030, the VW ID family will grow to a total of 16 models. This includes five electric cars from the new ID.UX brand, which will enter the market by 2027. In addition, Volkswagen plans to gradually electrify its models of combustion engines and expand its China portfolio with new plug-in hybrids with an electric range of more than 100 km. Twelve new combustion engines and six hybrid models will be introduced by 2030.
