2024 GMC Sierra EV increases range, low price | Car News

With Earth Day just around the corner, it’s electric week at Auto123 as we turn on the lights for key events in the EV segment.

GMC is announcing a price cut for the 2024 Sierra EV, along with a range increase for the first pickup.

General Motors (GM) is preparing to launch two electric trucks. Auto123 will have the opportunity to drive the first car next month, the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Shortly after, GMC will officially launch its Sierra EV.

Today, in anticipation of its arrival this summer, GM’s truck division shared updates on pricing and range. And it’s good news for both parties.

The range is now estimated at 440 miles, or 708 kilometers. This is a 10 percent increase over the first figures revealed, which estimated the range at 400 miles, or 644 kilometers.

The automaker also announced as part of the new update an increase in maximum towing capacity to 10,000 pounds. Payload has also been increased, up to 1,450 pounds. These are gains of 500 and 150 lbs respectively.

The best news, obviously; no property owner will complain.

GMC has also announced a price cut for the first model to be launched, the Denali 1 Edition. This will drop to $99,495 USD, or $9,200 less than before.

Canadian prices remain to be confirmed.

There is more reason to rejoice. GMC also confirmed a new feature for its pickup: directional rear wheels that will enable the model to offer a “crab walk”, a feature pioneered by the Hummer EV. At low speed, the angle of the rear wheels can be combined with the front to enable the car to move diagonally.

Stay tuned to Auto123 for all the details on our first impressions of the Silverado EV pickup, the GMC Sierra’s cousin, coming soon.
