DFDS signs with Volvo for 100 electric trucks

Volvo Trucks has received an order for another hundred electric trucks from logistics company DFDS. This doubles the number of Volvo electric trucks in the DFDS fleet. With a total of 225 electric trucks, it is the largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks in Europe.

DFDS, the largest transport and logistics company in Northern Europe, is seeing an increasing demand for transport solutions that place less burden on the environment. That is why the company has placed another order for one hundred electric trucks from Volvo. Previously, DFDS purchased a total of 125 Volvo electric trucks. Currently, 95 of them are working in Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Belgium and the Netherlands. The remaining thirty will be delivered during 2024.

Trust in Volvo

“I am proud that we can continue our close partnership with DFDS. This order for another hundred Volvo electric trucks is proof of their confidence in our company. The significant increase in DFDS’ electric truck fleet shows that zero-emission transport is a viable solution here and now,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.

The new electric trucks will be sent to nine markets in Europe, including the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden. This applies to the recently updated and more efficient Volvo FH Electric and FM models.

DFDS currently has the largest fleet of electric freight trucks in Europe and is on track to achieve its goal of electrifying at least 25 percent of its fleet by 2030.

Volunteering

“We want to drive the transition to more sustainable road transport. Our growing fleet of electric trucks will not only contribute to reducing the impact of our operations on the climate. It will also enable DFDS to support more companies looking to decarbonize their supply chains. This new order underlines our commitment of continued development,” said Niklas Anderson, EVP, Shipping Division at DFDS.

Some of the new electric trucks will be used to transport goods to and from the Volvo Trucks assembly plant in Gothenburg.
