Washington County officials have denied a permit for EagleCrest Recovery, a proposed residential treatment center, citing potential difficulties in the facility’s operations.
The Washington County Board of Commissioners, in a unanimous decision, declined to grant the permit for the center, saying that the proposed facility could prove challenging to maintain in the long-term.
The county’s planning department had recommended that the permit be denied, citing concerns about the facility’s ability to meet the county’s stringent regulations and standards. The county’s rejection of the permit was based on the premise that EagleCrest Recovery could not provide adequate assurance that it could comply with the county’s guidelines.
The proposed residential treatment center was intended to serve individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. The center would have provided a range of services, including counseling and medical care.
The county’s planning director expressed concern that the facility would not be able to meet the county’s requirements, noting the complexity of the regulations and the difficulty of ensuring compliance. The planning director also cited the need for sufficient staffing and resources to manage the facility.
In addition, the county noted that the proposed facility would be located in an area with a high crime rate, raising further doubts about the center’s ability to meet the county’s standards.
The rejection of the permit has generated significant criticism from local residents who had hoped to see the residential treatment center established in their community. Advocates for the center argued that it would have provided an essential service to individuals in need of addiction treatment.
However, Washington County officials remain firm in their decision to deny the permit, citing the potential difficulties of operating the facility in the long-term.
